The reason that Pierpole is such a crucial part to the the story being told here is because that without knowing the facts of his life there would be no true background in regards to the origin myth that states the Abenaki just got into canoes and paddled up the Sandy River into the Columbia which lead to Canada. This is the space where a lot of the Abenaki have supposedly settled. However if you were to look at the map of Maine and where the traitors for today’s Abenaki live you will see that a lot of them have settled right on the Canadian border.
The facts that are in PierPole’s story tells us that there was still an Abenaki presence in the Farmington area. It also shows us some of the reason behind why the Abinaki left during the 1700s.
